Chiang Mai (Part I)
Chiang Mai is the largest city in northern Thailand. It is 700 km north of Bangkok and is situated amongst the highest mountains in the country. Chiang Mai was founded in 1296 and succeeded Chiang Rai as the capital of the kingdom of Lan Na (1296–1768), before becoming a province of Thailand. It is quickly becoming one of the most popular destinations in Thailand due to its peaks, forests, and cultural sites.
